unjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has approved a proposal to subsidize surface seeders under the crop residue management (CRM) scheme. A surface seeder, developed by Punjab Agricultural University, is a piece of equipment that can be attached to a combine harvester. It is used for the simultaneous operation of paddy harvesting and wheat sowing.
A pilot project for the surface seeder was conducted in Satoj, a village in Sangrur, which happens to be Bhagwant Mann's native village. The results from this pilot project were positive, and as a result, the state government has decided to include the surface seeder in the CRM scheme to provide subsidies for this equipment.
The subsidy means that the cost of the machine, which is originally Rs 80,000, will be reduced by 50%, making it more affordable for farmers. After the subsidy, the machine will cost Rs 40,000 for a farmer, which is intended to encourage the adoption of this technology and promote more efficient crop residue management practices in Punjab.
